The Design Museum

Designer Maker User Exhibition

This exhibition was filled with pivatol design pieces from a typewriter to a teapot each were important in creating new advancements in the world of design. The main purpose for visiting this exhibition was to pick out a object that I found interesting and use the research I gained from the exhibition, to help me present it to my class at the end of the term.

I have decided on researching the London Underground map for my presenation. Because it was the first map in the world not to prioritise the maps technicality but to prioritise the viewers ease in understanding the map. I know this will be a very interesting thing to research and discover more about it.

This exhibition was interesting to see the many different objects which were considered by the curators as pivotal design pieces and how many of these objects we still use today in everyday settings.

Designs of the year

In this exhibition we saw the designs of the year. It is the opposite to the previous exhibition we saw which was about pivotal designs of the past, this is about the future.

There were many interesting pieces of design. Some of my favourites were the projector which was a touch screen (by Sony Experia), a selection of plant based plastics (Crafting Plastics! studio) and a encyclopaedia of architectural terms (Irma Boom) which was beautifully laid out making it visually interesting even if the actual contents could be seen as quite dense.

Who am I? Exhibition

In this Exhibition, the last exhibition of the London trip, we went and looked at the Who am I? exhibition. It had interactive exhibits to collect data of the person using the exhibit. They then visualised in a certain way, one of the exhibits was when we came in which sensed your body and used dots to follow you around as you waled past it (see below).

This visit was to help get inspiration for our project for module 4002, where in recording our own data we must visually represent it. I think it was useful because it showed mow many different ways can be used to create data and how it doesn't have to be too technical.
