Screen Printing Workshop 3

This workshop was the final screen printing workshop we had. In this workshop I refined all my prints and also experimented with foiling. The foiling was a great way from me to add something distinctive onto a print that might be lacking in something. I found it was successful on actual screen printing ink but I tried on spray paint and it did not work as it stuck to random areas.

Prints from this workshop

In earlier workshops I had experimented with the flower print and it did not look that successful on it own but with different dots on top it created enough contrast to make it look interesting I also added a neon orange as the last layer so it could contrast even more with the dark purple

This Print is also similar to the one above but I tried going about it in a different way I used black as the final layer which creating a new texture over the natural shapes of the flower, map and dots.

I added onto this print part of me wishes that I just left it as it is I think I might have gone a step to far. However it was a good learning experience because it made me evaluate my other prints I had made and whether I would need to add to them.

In this print I tried to keep it fairly simple I had spray painted the background with my flower as a stencil and it created a nice effect so I did not want to draw away from that so I only added to more elements on to create a simple pattern over the top.

This was the print where the foiling failed I do not know what happened but it seems that the glue does not adhere to spray paint very well. So to remedy it I covered it which actually create an interesting pattern and when it catches the light the pattern is emphasised.

However this foiling on this final print did work well. I then added more neon dots on the top to create contrast and overall it worked will and on top of the foil it made a new pattern

Research

For this lesson I research a Belgian design duo Les Tontons Racleurs mainly to see how they by adding new elements, help to bring their prints together. This was useful for me to see because coming into the workshop I was able to have an idea on what I might do to tie my designs together.

Review

Overall I really enjoyed the screen printing workshops and I definitely want to continue it in my future projects because it is a quick and easy way to get a graphic and text onto a page.
