Brief
In this stage I simplified my pictograms even more to try and make them into glyphs.
You should not attempt to retain any iconic features, but should only be concerned with the physical relationships of the forms.
They must achieve an absolutely consistent harmony with one another while simultaneously being as distinct from each other as possible. Attention should be given to the relationships between character or character-pairings and to spacing.
Research

To help make me understand glyphs, I read the book 'Glyph*' which is a visual exploration of punctuation and other type marks. This book shows all the different types of glyphs out there. It made me realise that my glyphs just have to be simple and distinct at the end of the day. Each glyphs only has a few strokes and marks.
Process
To develop and simplify my glyphs I once again sketched them and tried to think of key iconic features and simplify them even more. Sketching was very useful process for me to properly abstract my design whilst also thinking about how I was going to make the whole type face consistent.

Because this was the first one I developed it took me many tries to find a final design I was happy with. I actually went in later after I had designed a few more glyphs and added the bottom left glyph. Which was the one I decided to use.

I then went into Illustrator to create a digital version of my files. I drew paths on top of my selected glyphs which I had scanned in. I knew that in order to go into stage 5 of the project I had to create glyphs which were compatible with 'Glyph' software.

I like how abstract this glyph is. Considering it came from a dragon pattern to what it is above.
