Research

Keith Haring

A prominent illustrator in the 80s who's designs are still recognisable today. His signature style was simple line drawing usually of men that were repeated again and again to create one continuous free flowing pattern. In my own work I think this free flowing style is something I want to get across creating the idea of movement something that the whizz can enable you to keep on doing with out having to stop.

Haring used his work to spread messages, ideas and issues to the public psyche. However all his drawing were positive and fun using the little people and the use of lines to create movement and action. I will use the little lines in my own pattern to help create movement.

Development

After research I started to experiment more with different patterns this helped me decide what was the best pattern for my package I ended up deciding on the pattern below. Which is virtually the same to my first pattern design because I decided it appealed to the target audiences best: it appealed to the festival through being lively and organic, out doors because it conveys moving water which has connotations of being outside and then appealed to the medical audience as it has a calming feel.

I then scanned in my design and moved it into photoshop to make it a vector graphic so the pattern could be infinitely scaled with out losing it's definition. I was also able to recolour my design to experiment with more colour pallets.

To move on I will create a net in InDesign and also collate imagery and text to create developments of my packaging net.
