In this workshop which spanned over this week and last, we used data to create a piece of graphic work, a book. Last week we went to the library to Harvard reference eight books which were to do with Graphic Design.

Harvard Referencing at Brookes:

Author: Surname, Initials of first name.

Date: (date)

Title: Title to book.

Publisher: Place it was published in: publisher name.

This week we took all of our data and created it into a book on InDesign. To create the front cover of the book we scanned in a inside page from one of our books that we used in the library. To represent the data we used Nested styles to create a coherent scheme.

Then we printed our pages out multiple times so everyone in the class could have a copy of everyone else's data. We folded the printed sheets in half, hole punched the sheets and bind them to create our books.

Overall, the book was successful however I did have some mishap when I made my measurements wrong so the cover was too small. But, different sized pages could be interesting thing I could take forward in my future projects.

Research

To further my knowledge after the class I looked at It's Nice That web page and they have a section called the bookshelf where designers talk, visualise and represent the books they use. its good inspiration on learning the different ways people represent data.
