Photos

I created a contact sheet of all the photos I took in previous workshops that I thought would be relevant for my zine. I am planning to have a collage on the back so I was mainly trying to get different angles of my teddy's face to make it look like the teddy was looking around trying to find it's owner.

Moving on from the selection, I created a collage of my teddy to see what it might look like. I was pleased with what I created and I found many of the cut outs also looked good which is something I could add to my zine. I was inspired by Brooke Van Der Linden who used collage to create a narrative (see previous post). I also looked at the dadaist such as Hannah Hoch to help me create these collages.

Screen Printing

I decided to screen print my background and the silhouettes of the owner. So to start off my process I created the silhouettes of the owner on Photoshop, how I did this was I got a royalty free image off the internet and traced over the image to create a black shape of the boy.

I also wanted to incorporated some sort of map to my back ground. I eventually decided on a satellite image of the oxford countryside due to the fact I found my teddy in oxford. In order for it to work on a screen for screen print I had to make it black and white and invert the colours.

Before I screen Printed I made a mock up of my Zine on InDesign to help me give an idea of where I would place my imagery when screen printing.

My screen printing went well it was a good way for me to look at my layout and practicality of my design. I am going to develop it further because I used neon colours I do not think it entirely works with my design so next session I will use primary colours to help the give the idea a child has made it.

For my screen printing I looked at the artist Tommy Davidson. He specialises in screen printing and has created many posters. I was especially inspired by this 'Big Moon' poster because of the way he layered different colours on top of each other which is something I experimented in my screen printing.
